Think of an 80’s automotive shape… got one? Is it one of these? This hunk of JDM, retro glory is part of the Nissan Skyline family and possibly one of the lesser known variants - The R31 generation.
This stunning example is a 1988 Nissan Skyline R31 that’s been made to look like a GTS-R (KHR31) - The ultimate version of the R31. It may be a replica, but you’d never know! Originally red, this was Imported from Japan through our Personal Import Service. Finished in ‘BG8 Bluish Black’, it imitates the 823 original examples of the GTS-R that were built…
Released in 1987, the rare GTS-R model had a tweaked version of the RB20DET engine with a way bigger turbocharger on a tubular steel exhaust manifold, plus a much large front-mounted intercooler. The engine became the RB20DET-R putting out 210ps. It was based on the Group A Touring Car (which had 430bhp) and sold as a limited edition.
Did you know the R31 generation reintroduced the six cylinder engine back into the Skyline line up, not seen since the C110 (Kenmeri). So arguably without this model, we may never have seen the RB26… Who knows!
Not only does this road going coupe have some Motorsport pedigree, it looks seriously cool too. Visually it’s drenched in 80’s cool… Seriously, why don’t we make interiors look like this anymore?
You’ve got big chunky buttons and a dramatically tiered dash! The bolstered fabric seats are tremendously comfy, plus you get a cassette player to hear all of your old 80’s bangers. What’s not to love?
On the outside, the set of gorgeous BBS wheels really set the car off and we love the little details such as the stickers on the wheel spats…
The previous Japanese owner was obviously a massive fan with a serious eye for detail. Also, let’s be honest, with the rear lights lit up, it simply looks badass!
The R31 is a proper leftfield choice in the skyline world and remarkably good value in comparison to its 90’s siblings that followed given its rarity. Some may not even know at first glance, but for those in the know, it’ll make their day.
