A lesser known model to the average JDM car fan, the Mazda Cosmo was first introduced to the market back in 1967. Mazda's 'Halo' car at the time its main purpose was to create a positive image for the company, showing them as forward-thinking and innovative brand. The name 'Cosmo' emphasises this point tipping its hat to the Space Race. Where Mazda really pushed the envelope however, was lurking underneath the bonnet where the first production rotary engine resided. Innovation aside, arguaby the most stand out feature of the Mazda Cosmo was its appearance. A nice blend of classy and quirky, its a unique look that has aged exceptionally well.

This 1972 Cosmo Sports was spotted at a dealers recently by our team in Japan. With 42,000kms on the odometer its clearly been used as intended but not excessively given its now approaching 50 years old. Currently offered at 12 mill JPY this is about average for a Cosmo sports in today's market. The importance however will be in the inspection to see how good it is in the flesh.
