Introduction
This is a Spirit R, the last of the RX7s before the car was axed in 2002, and the most desirable of all!
A run out special, there were just 1,500 Spirit R made and Mazda threw everything at them: forged BBS wheels, adjustable rear wing, Bilstein suspension, Kevlar backed RECARO seats etc…
There’s so much about this car that’s right it just seems a travesty that the RX7 badge has been dormant for so long.
A more driver-focused version solely for Japan, the Spirit R is a match for anything Porsche was doing in the same era. That 13B engine, well Mazda keeps dropping hints about bringing the rotary back and driving this you can see why some engineers at Mazda’s Yokohama R&D centre are still madly in love with the rotary concept.
1044 Type A Spirit R were produced. Type A spec includes the gorgeous Red Kevlar/Carbon backed Recaro seats and rear storage bins.
This Low mile Spirit R Type A number 1219/1500 is presented in Innocent Blue (20P), a colour that it wears so well, particularly against the smoked chrome finish of the BBS wheels. It’s a design that even now just looks so good.
It left Japan a grade 4 example with 39,000kms and now reads 49,560kms. It is factory original with no modifications other than a desirable MazdaSpeed Carbon Shift knob and aftermarket stereo.
In fantastic condition throughout it's a high quality example that will impress. We believe this Spirit R to be a superb investment for those looking at a rare and highly desirable Japanese performance car.
In our opinion one of the prettiest cars to come out of Japan, full stop.
