Our first fresh import DC5 arrived with us back in 2002. 18 years on and hundreds of DC5s imported since its safe to say I'm still a massive fan of this model. Its only recently however that I've been especially keen to get my own DC5 project on the go. Patience is key when hunting for the right car but soon enough one came up at the Japanese car auctions. Satin Silver is often overlooked in favour of Championship White but in the flesh it works really well...

After inspection, our guys in Japan reported a solid car but quite modified. As is often the case with Japanese owners the quality of the parts were all from high-end manufacturers... RAYS Alloys, Mugen Airbox, Zerofighter Exhaust and some Endless Coilovers (which had unfortunately seen better days). Ideally, I was looking for a stock example to make my own but the condition was good with only a few minor scuffs so sometimes you have to look past what's there.

My plan is the perfect street spec DC5 whilst holding on to the essence of the car that Honda designed. A daily driver if you like but with a few subtle Torque Parts tweaks...

The car finally arrived in the UK just before Christmas and we took delivery shortly after. First job was to get the 18” alloys off - they have no place on a DC5. Luckily we had a set of freshly powder coated White OE alloys in stock!

Although a superb system the Zerofighter is insanely loud which I know I'll struggle to live with. Its safe to say a more subtle Fujitsubo RM-01A will likely replace it. As highlighted by our inspection team in Japan the Endless coilovers were indeed past their best so a new suspension set up will be one of the first areas I tackle. I'm mulling over a number of options although Bilsteins, uprated springs and a fast road set up is in my opinion hard to beat.

Next update coming soon!
