We recently received this glowing report of Dixcel brakes from a customer who is a well seasoned track day driver. Having driven 15 circuits already this year he's struggled to find a quality and reliable brake solution, read on for Gray's verdict...

"I drive a standard Megane 250 Cup car (no modifications) on numerous UK and a few European circuits throughout the year. I have struggled to find front brake pads that can handle the punishment they undoubtedly receive whilst being pushed hard on track. Ferodo DS2500 and subsequently DS3000 compounds have both let me down recently at Brands GP and the Nurburgring. The brakes suffering with progressive judder, to the point where the car was almost undrivable. FYI I use Renault supplied Brembo discs all round and Motul RBF 660 brake fluid. At the Nurburgring I met a highly regarded racing brake specialist who mentioned a manufacturer of discs and pads that I had never heard of before “Dixcel”.

When I got back home I found Torque GT online (UK Dixcel importer) and called up their offices. I spoke to the parts manager, Josh Phillips who went to some considerable lengths to supply me with information about the best combination of discs and pads from the Japanese manufacturer Dixcel. I bought a set of front Dixcel Z type pads and I had my nearly new Brembo discs skimmed before heading off to the Bedford GT circuit. I spent some time progressively leaning on the brakes to bed them in before hitting the track."

"My first impression was that the pads were quite noisy under braking at lower speeds and they initially felt a little juddery under harder braking. The GT configuration is 4 miles long with fast straights, a couple of chicanes, and unusually compared with many other circuits, a good balance of left and right hand bends. The Dixcel Z type pads just got better and better as the day progressed. I would drive hard for 4 of 5 laps and then drive a full lap much slower to cool the brakes and tyres, before pushing hard again. The pads behaved impeccably with a good, predictable progressive feel and no sense of fading no matter how hard I leaned on them. I completed just under 300 track miles during the day and I used approximately 1/3 of the pads' depth in the process. Inadequate brake function has been the bane of a number of my 15 track days this year. I now feel I have found a superb product which delivers exactly the kind of performance that I would hope for and expect from a performance brake pad. Silverstone GP is next up, which I am really looking forward to."

"The Dixcel Z types are considerably cheaper than the Ferodos and they are much kinder to my discs. I should point out that I recently had a horrendous experience at Castle Combe circuit using EBC yellowstuff pads - average braking, with the pads themselves evaporating into a cloud of dust before my eyes. By mid afternoon my brand new EBC pads had worn down to the metal!"

"I can’t speak highly enough about Dixcel pads or the high quality service and care that I received from Josh at Torque GT. Many thanks."
