Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart - Baby Evo!
In the UK we love a good hot hatch. In a world of speed bumps, poor road surfaces and all types of weather there's arguably more fun to be had in a hot hatch than a supercar!
Japan has made a hot hatch or two, from fast Hondas such as the heroic Civic EK9 to Nissan's homologation special Pulsar GTi-R. You then of course have the pocket rocket city cars such as the Toyota Vitz Turbo, Suzuki Swift Sports and fun Kei cars such as the Honda City Turbo and Suzuki Alto RS... the list goes on!
Mitsubishi know how to make a regular civilian car go faster, creating one of the most rapid 'A to B' weapons, the Lancer Evolution. With serious Motorsport credentials, Mitsubishi's Ralliart division are the stuff of legend. So what happens when Ralliart has its way with an innocent Mitsubishi Colt? The Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart Version R is born!
This little pocket rocket takes influence from its bigger brother, the Lancer Evolution, with aesthetic 'Evo-esque' hints like the bonnet vent, fat arches, aggressive bumpers and grey 16" alloys.
The theme continues in the cabin with branded door plates, subtle Ralliart labels on the seats and racey red and white dials.
The Ralliart badges suggest this is no run-of-the-mill Colt... this is a hatch with performance at the top of its agenda! Overall stiffer than a normal Colt, the chassis is reinforced by doubling the number of spot welds, adding strut tower bars on the A-pillars, rear corner braces, uprated suspension joints and shocks that keep the car planted through the corners.
Running a 1500cc Mivec Turbo engine the power delivery is like a scaled down Evo, 3500rpm and in comes the turbo punch! Sending power to the front wheels and only weighing 1110kg's, the 163bhp is more than plenty to get up to some mischief... yes, it's not in the same league as modern 300bhp hatches but it's nowhere near as expensive nor heavy for that matter!
