With Facebook and Instragram feeds dominated by Nissan Skyline GTRs, Toyota Supras, Mitsubishi Evolutions, Subaru Imprezas and Honda Civic Type Rs we thought it was high time to show some love for the hidden gems still lurking in Japan. Buried beneath the 'JDM Heroes' there's some decent savings to be made too! Check out 6 hidden gems we've recently spotted in Japan...

Mitsubishi Air Trek Turbo R

Mitsubishi Air Trek

Another car that has gone under the radar for many years is the Airtrek Turbo R. Considerably more affordable than the Evolution IX GT Wagon and the Subaru Forester STI we can see the Turbo R gaining more popularity in the coming years. This one priced at 600,000 JPY is at the upper end of the market but a decent example of what you can get for your money currently. Plenty of space and enough power to scare the kids on the way to school, what could be better?

Subaru Legacy B4 S401 STi

Subaru Legacy S401

Limited to a mere 400 units the Subaru Legacy S401 is a rare sight in Japan. Living in the shadow of the better known Impreza S series the value of these are pretty modest in comparison. This S401 currently sitting at 1.1 mill JPY appears great value especially as there's only 89,000kms on the odometer too!

Mazda AZ-1

The coolest KEI car ever released? Well, if it isn't the coolest then it definitely wins first prize for the quirkiest! Gull wing doors is perhaps the main talking point but there's plenty more to be said about this little JDM Icon. Collectors and car fans looking for something that little bit different have been attracted to these recently which has pushed values up. However, we still feel they're undervalued for what could be considered as the most iconic Japanese kei car! Although this one is being advertised for a little more we currently see prices start at around 1 mill JPY in Japan.

Toyota Cresta

Toyota Cresta

Another Japanese performance car to be powered by the superb 1JZ engine the Toyota Cresta is still an unknown when compared to the Chaser Tourer V or Mark II. This means we tend to see them priced a little more competitively in Japan for what could be seen as a very similar car. Its unlikely this will be the case for long though as values for Tourer Vs and the Mark II continue to climb, so now is a good time to start the search!

Nissan Sunny Truck

Sunny Truck

Who doesn't love a Sanitora? Retro appeal by the truck load we relish the opportunity when our Personal Import clients ask us to find them one of these. This little Sunny looks more moody than usual with its colour change jet black paintwork and deep dish wheels. Priced just over 1 mill JPY its on the pricey side though. Lucky availabilty is pretty good on Sanitoras so prices are still relatively low given how desirable they're starting to become!

Honda CR-X del Sol SiR

CRX Delsol

Powered by the infamous B16 VTEC engine, the CR-X del Sol was touted as the most important Japanese sports car for a decade by 'Best Motoring' journalist Keiichi Tsuchiya. Pushing over 100hp per litre it was one of the first to do break this barrier. The electric targa roof was also the first of its kind and no doubt helped it stand out further upon its release. Currently being offered for a shade under 1 mill JPY we often see these for less. We also expect them to attract even more attention over the coming years...
